district family engagement coordinator

department:

non-bargaining-city wide

reports to:

district attendance, climate and culture coordinator

summary:

implements state and local student attendance regulations. Facilitates or arranges for comprehensive educational and supportive services to families and their children. Performs residency verifications. Obtain updated community support and maintain a resource list for the district. Plans events and workshops for students and families.

essential duties and responsibilities:

other duties may be assigned

  • follows up on student referrals from schools due to attendance and determines best course of action to assist the student and their family.
  • works with administrators, counselors and teachers to help re-orientate and motivate at risk students.
  • home visits, telephone calls and school meetings to assist families with community supports.
  • collection of attendance data.
  • investigates residency questions.
  • reports to dcf as needed.
  • shall perform other functions as required by immediate supervisor(s).
  • additional leap home visits

education

bachelor's degree preferred in child service related area.

experience

two years experience in education, community outreach

experience working with children and families

knowledge of the juvenile court and dcf

certificates, licenses & registrations

connecticut motor vehicle operator's license and the ability to provide own transportation.

language skills

ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and the general public.

mathematical skills

ability to calculate figures and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

computer skills

basis knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications. Ability to use a computer for e-mail, word processing, accounting databases and presentations.

reasoning ability

ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

other skills and abilities

ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak and communicate effectively. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board of education policies.
