Purpose

Stewards Individual Placements, a division of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with Ameri Corps service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural and cultural resources. Weir Farm National Historical Park, the only National Park Service site dedicated to American painting, is one of the nation’s finest remaining landscapes of American art. The park offers an abundance of exciting, fun programs to the public, including art workshops and special tours.

Weir Farm National Historical Park’s mission is to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Specifically, to preserve and provide opportunities for visitors to preserve a significant site of the tradition of American Impressionism; maintain the integrity of a setting that inspired artistic expression and to offer opportunities for the inspirational benefit and education of the American people.

Description

of Duties
  • Lead exciting public programs, including tours of the Weir House, hands‑on service‑learning projects, and engaging curriculum‑based education activities.
  • Be the face of Weir Farm NHP at the visitor center, and the Weir and Young Studios, providing information and informal interpretation to visitors.
  • Contribute your creativity to the park’s web‑based, digital, and social media platforms.
  • Participate in vibrant public outreach programs.
  • Support the Art in the Park program by assisting with art workshops and managing art supplies.
  • Lead groups of enthusiastic students during educational activities.
  • Undertake a unique engagement project based on your skills and interests, such as a web‑based tour, publication, or other innovative projects aimed at engaging.
  • Collaborate with curatorial, facilities, and natural resource divisions, occasionally assisting with gardens and grounds maintenance or museum collections work.
Qualifications
  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
  • Be between the ages of 18-30 (or up to age 35 with Veteran status).
  • Have received a High School diploma.
  • Agree to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
  • Able to commit to 24 weeks of Ameri Corps service.
  • Ability to interact with public; especially youth.
  • Communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
  • Ability to embrace outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Visitor Services experience is a plus.
  • Must be willing to drive department vehicles and possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history.
