Nurse Residency - RN at Yale New Haven Health

The Nurse Residency Registered Nurse (RN) at Yale New Haven Health System provides patient-centered care in compliance with nursing standards and ethical guidelines. This role involves comprehensive patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care, emphasizing collaboration, communication, and leadership within a healthcare team. The RN is responsible for upholding professional nursing practices, promoting health and safety, and supporting continuous learning and quality improvement initiatives.

Overview

To be part of our organization, every employee should understand and share in the YNHHS Vision, support our Mission, and live our Values. These values—integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion—must guide what we do as individuals and professionals, every day. As an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives to provide the highest level of patient‑centered care.

The RN practices professional nursing as a registered nurse within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model. The RN provides care that establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships, communicates and collaborates with patients, families, and the healthcare team, and respects patients’ values and preferences while incorporating cultural and diverse perspectives into care planning and evaluation.

Responsibilities
  • Standards of Practice – RN practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice. The Standards describe a competent level of nursing care demonstrated through the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Key duties include collecting pertinent data, analyzing assessment data for diagnoses, identifying expected outcomes, developing and modifying individualized care plans, implementing those plans, coordinating care delivery and transitions, promoting health and safety, and evaluating progress toward outcomes.
  • Standards of Professional Performance – The ANA Standards describe a competent level of professional behavior, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN engages in these activities, maintains ethical practice, promotes culturally congruent care, communicates effectively, collaborates with stakeholders, leads within the professional setting, seeks continued competency, integrates evidence and research, contributes to quality nursing practice, evaluates own and others’ practice, utilizes resources responsibly, and maintains an environmentally safe and healthy practice environment.
