Overview
We have a number of exciting research opportunities in the Quantum Engineering Technology Labs (QET Labs) at the University of Bristol. As a member of QET Labs, you will conduct research at the interface of quantum technologies, photonics, and experimental science. You will be part of a dynamic team and have the opportunity to interact with all members of QET Labs and the wider Bristol Quantum Information Institute.
QET Labs has a mission to take quantum science discoveries out of the lab and engineer them into technologies for the benefit of society. This includes novel routes to quantum computing hardware, quantum communications, enhanced sensing & imaging and new platforms to investigate fundamental quantum physics. The Research Centre consists of over 100 academics, researchers, staff and students and sits within both the School of Physics and the School of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering.
Multiple Research Associate positions are available of different durations. The duration of the post to be offered will be discussed following a successful interview.
Key ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities will include working with others to formulate project plans, developing new techniques for classical and quantum optics characterisation and delivery of research outputs.
Research Areas- Quantum Computing
- Quantum Communications
- Quantum Sensing/Imaging
- Solid State quantum systems
- Integrated Quantum Photonics
- Pure or applied quantum information theory
- Cold and ultra cold atomic Physics
- You have a strong track record in the design, implementation, and analysis of photonic devices or quantum information processing with photons
- You have expertise in optical engineering or quantum optics and a demonstratable understanding of its major platforms, e.g. integrated photonics, emitters
- You have postgraduate (or equivalent) laboratory experience in one of experimental physics, optics, photonics, electronics, or a related discipline
- You have a PhD (or equivalent qualification) and first degree in Physics, Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, or other relevant discipline (or equivalent relevant research experience)
This position is presented as full-time. Flexible working options are considered. QET Labs is committed to helping researchers become independent academics and have extensive experience in aiding PDRAs with fellowship applications.
Diversity and InclusionThe University of Bristol aims to be a place where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best in an inclusive working environment where all colleagues can thrive and reach their full potential. We want to attract, develop, and retain individuals with different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives – particularly people of colour, LGBT+ and disabled people – because diversity of people and ideas remains integral to our excellence as a global civic institution.
