Job Summary

Bristol Health is looking for Security Officers to join our Security team! The Security Officer will take a proactive role in addressing situations related to the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors while making appropriate notifications to Security Leadership, Nursing Supervisor, and when appropriate, local law enforcement and Bristol Health Executive Leadership. Adheres to all policies and procedures and ensures safety controls are administered in a calm and professional manner.

Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Evaluate and assess potential threats; emergency and event response, including assistance with de-escalation and administering safety protocols in accordance with policy.
  • Document safety and security events in Bristol Healths Incident Reporting System.
  • Monitor campus security cameras, periodically tour buildings, grounds, parking lots, examining doors and other hardware to determine if they are secure or tampered with; report issues of vehicle tampering, safety concerns or malfunctions to the correct personnel or local law enforcement.
  • Monitor employee compliance with Bristol Health parking policies and conduct procedures associated with non-compliance.
  • Assist with communications and dispatching.
  • Evaluate and determine approved visitor access and location and process visitor badges.
  • Traffic control on grounds.
  • Security vehicle inspection.
  • Raising and lowering flags.
  • Lost and found property processing.
  • Locking & unlocking doors.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:

    One (1) year experience in security field or law enforcement field required (Healthcare Preferred).
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Current State of Connecticut Certification as a Licensed Security Officer or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of First Aid, CPR-AED and CPI certifications required and as a condition of continued employment.
Cognitive Requirements
  • Mental flexibility to perform diverse duties.
  • Good communications skills, written and oral and ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
  • Good organizational skills along with basic computer skills.
Bristol Health Mandated Educational Requirements
  • General orientation at time of hire.
  • Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually.
  • Similar programs deemed appropriate by management.
Physical Requirements
  • Significant walking.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to perform a full range of body movements.
  • Vision corrected to comply with State of CT drivers license standards.
  • Capable of hearing and verbally communicating.
  • Must be willing and able to successfully complete a Work Fit evaluation.
Work Environment
  • Normal patient care environment.
  • Exposure to varied outdoor elements.
  • Occasional exposure to patient elements.
  • Stress related to confrontational interactions with patients and visitors.
