Summary

This vacancy is for an Electrician, WG-2805-10 located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Facilities Engineering, Public Works Division, United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT.

Responsibilities
  • Install, modify, repair, load, and test electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment in industrial, institutional, office, and residential buildings, and on ships.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems and ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code.
  • Plan and layout work, trace hard‑to‑locate defects or problems, and complete repairs and installations.
  • Operate systems and equipment with minimal supervision.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Registered or exempt from the Selective Service.
  • Valid U.S. state driver’s license.
  • Completion of a pre‑employment medical examination.
  • One‑year probationary period may be required.
  • Must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment theory and instruments.
  • Ability to read and use electrical drawings.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and programmable logic controls.
  • Electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with National Service (volunteer work) is considered creditable.
Education

No positive education requirement.

Foreign Education

Foreign education may be used to meet qualification requirements if comparable to education received in accredited institutions in the United States.
