Position: Skilled Maintainer (37.5 Hour) #260609-0427TC-001

Introduction

The State of Connecticut Military Department (CTMD) is accepting applications for a Skilled Maintainer position located at the TASM‑G, Groton, CT. The Connecticut Army National Guard's Theater Aviation Sustainment facility is responsible for depot level maintenance of Army National Guard Aviation assets.

Position Highlights
  • Full-time, first shift;
    Monday–Friday.
  • 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM (37.5 hours).
  • Successful completion of a federal background investigation required prior to permanent appointment.
  • Regular in‑state travel using State vehicles to perform duties.
  • Valid, unexpired driver’s license required to operate State vehicles.

Required Duties
  • Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial), including operation of trucks of five (5) tons or greater capacity or complex motorized equipment.
  • Grounds care as a supervisor and/or specialized landscaping functions.
  • Assist qualified craft workers or other higher‑level employees in the trades areas.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials and procedures of the specific trade or work area concerned.
  • Knowledge of maintenance problems and their proper handling.
  • Skills:

    manual and machine operations of trade or work area; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills.
  • Abilities: follow written and oral instructions; utilize computer software.
Minimum Qualifications – General Experience
  • Two (2) years of experience in one of the following: the skilled trades; landscape maintenance or vegetable gardening; operation of motor trucks or large buses.
Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed
  • Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of required subject requirements in a maintenance trade area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience assisting a trades person in construction, painting, plastering, carpentry, electrical work or plumbing tasks.
  • Experience performing grounds maintenance (mowing, weeding, raking, shoveling, snow and ice removal with a light truck, skid steer or tractor).
  • Experience using, setting up, and maintaining basic hand/power tools: auto‑scrubber machines, buffers, carpet cleaners, zero‑turn lawn mowers, string trimmers.
  • Experience performing basic record‑keeping for preventive maintenance, vehicle assignments, and creating work orders; proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar platforms.
  • Experience operating automobiles, trucks, and/or complex motorized equipment with a valid Connecticut driver’s license.
  • Experience maintaining facility HVAC mechanical equipment, replacing belts, filters, strainers, etc.
Special Requirements

Incumbents may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

Physical Requirements
  • Adequate physical strength, stamina, agility and visual and auditory acuity, and maintenance of such physical fitness to perform the duties.
  • Physical examination may be required.
Working Conditions
  • May be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to dust, heat, noise, extreme weather and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive individuals.
  • May be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines; use of protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles may be required.
