Job Description

Amentum is seeking an HVAC Utilities Maintenance Technician V for our client site in Groton, CT!

Responsibilities
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial mechanical systems, chiller plant equipment/systems, high‑pressure boilers, steam turbines, pumps, valves, and pneumatic systems.
  • Conducting predictive and preventative maintenance inspections and performing required actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing various utility plant support systems.
  • Performing basic repairs on water, compressed air, and steam lines.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on mechanical systems and controls, as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Responding and providing service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Recommending measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Analyzing and resolving work problems, or assisting others in solving work problems.
  • Understanding company policies, enforcing safety regulations, and performing daily duties safely by following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tag‑out procedures, and wearing required PPE.
  • Working in a team environment with a one‑team mentality; being friendly, respectful, empathetic, and professional to teammates and clients.
  • Valuing and respecting employee authenticity, demonstrating cultural awareness to create a memorable experience and a respectful workplace.
  • Balancing workload and multiple tasks while focusing on attention to detail and prioritizing assignments.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CT S1/S2 Heating Piping and Cooling License.
  • An active EPA Universal certification.
  • Five years of experience as a maintenance technician in Power/Utility/Chiller Plants.
  • Ability to work in a highly regulated environment and diagnose/troubleshoot basic mechanical equipment, pumps, fans, chillers, steam turbine, gas turbine, compressors, refrigeration, and more.
  • Strong mechanical skills learned through prior work experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to identify and correct safety‑related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential failures.
  • Ability to obtain site‑specific security access, including all applicable background checks.
  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and successfully complete a fit test for required respirators.
  • Ability to work overtime when required, including holidays and weekends as assigned.
  • Ability to obtain an appropriate driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, as requested.
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • Position does not include sponsorship for U.S. work authorization.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly climb ladders, steps, and scaffolding.
  • Repetitive motions: bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stretch, reach, wrist movement.
  • Walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
  • Work at an accelerated pace in emergency conditions.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to work at heights when required.
  • Wear steel‑toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other personal protective equipment as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, supply and exhaust fans, power transmission components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, etc.
  • Experience performing pipe fitting, welding, fabrication, and millwright related work.
  • Experience troubleshooting and/or repairing steam turbines, gas turbines, and boilers with building automation systems in an industrial or research facility.
  • Pay based on licenses and years of experience.
