Responsibilities
  • Serve as the chief administrator of the School of Engineering, Computing, and Construction Management; act as spokesperson and primary advocate for the school.
  • Exercise managerial decision-making authority relative to all operational and administrative functions of the school as delegated by the Provost.
  • Provide leadership for and oversee instructional programs, promote interdisciplinary collaboration with other academic units, and oversee curriculum development and assessment.
  • Lead school strategic planning efforts and participate in university strategic planning as part of the academic leadership team.
  • Articulate annual and longer-term goals; oversee development of curriculum initiatives, including graduate programs, through appropriate approvals.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage budgets; review proposed budgets and make recommendations to the Provost; allocate resources to programs, staff, and space.
  • Plan, develop, and manage day-to-day school operations; ensure timely submission of reports, course schedules, and other written materials.
  • Support faculty in teaching, scholarship, and grant writing; provide leadership in hiring, mentoring, and evaluating faculty and non-faculty staff.
  • Ensure compliance with program and institutional accreditation standards and participate in program assessment and evaluation.
  • Pursue fundraising and grant opportunities, either personally or through school faculty and staff.
  • Administer and maintain accurate records for students, faculty, and staff; oversee advising, development plans, and evaluations as appropriate.
  • Oversee promotion, tenure, and post-tenure review processes and recommend faculty actions to the Provost within contract parameters.
  • Participate in admissions activities and engage with prospective students; address student and faculty concerns and complaints as needed.
  • Periodically teach an in-discipline course when schedule permits; engage in development and fundraising activities.
Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline with four years of managerial experience at the department chair level or above.
  • Evidence of scholarship and pedagogical experience appropriate for appointment at the level of full Professor.
  • Strong awareness of the needs of students, faculty, the University, and the community; ability to relate to and work with students in their academic pursuits; proven program leadership and development.
  • Good interpersonal, management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to establish organizational priorities and make difficult choices among competing demands; ability to foster open communication for faculty, non-faculty, and student success.
  • Ability to lead and work across units to support a diverse student body and campus community.
  • At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be waived if an equivalent combination prepares the candidate for success in the position.
