Job Description

Roger Williams University is seeking Adjunct Professors to teach in its Dance and Performance Studies Program. Currently we are seeking experienced Modern / Contemporary technique teachers who are skilled in teaching highly kinetic and anatomically sound classes that are spatially lush, musically driven; and focus on endurance, strength, and flexibility. We ask applicants to highlight any additional movement styles they like to teach, and/or skill sets they feel they could share with students to prepare them for the field;

for example: choreography, kinesiology, dance on film, freelance management, somatic techniques, etc. The Dance and Performance Studies Program is part of RWU’s Performing Arts Department, and is part of the University’s School of Humanities, Arts, and Education. Professors who teach within the Dance Program most often teach a mixture of Dance majors and minors who range from low-intermediate to advanced levels.

Professors who enjoy engaging with liberal arts students of varying backgrounds, levels, and reasons for moving are highly sought. Many of our Dance majors are double majors who seek a life‑long relationship with dance, whether it be a professional track or adapting the skills and philosophies dance develops to help distinguish themselves in other professions. Because of this, we value applicants who have expertise in relating dance to other disciplines and professions - whether they be other art forms, health and sciences, technology, and/or cultural studies.

Job Requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or Equivalent Teaching Experience.
  • Professional dance experience including performing, choreographing, and/or somatic practices that focus on anatomical sustainability and life‑long holistic health.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and collegial collaboration.
  • Demonstrated excellence as a studio teacher - as well as a demonstrated interest in dance composition.

At the University’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
