Job DescriptionReporting to the Assistant Director for Residence Life, the Area Coordinator, Residence Life & Housing serves an important leadership role in creating an environment and experience that provides stability and a sense of community for the students residing in housing at Roger Williams University.
The Area Coordinator oversees 2 residential buildings, including the supervision of a Graduate Community Director.
Residential EducationFacilitate, monitor, update, report and evaluate engagement strategies based on the RWU Student Life Division Curricular Model and Residence Life and Housing Educational Plan.
Regularly evaluate the residential curriculum model to continue to encourage personal development, academic achievement, community living, and social interaction.
Oversee student leadership opportunities within the residential community, including the Hall Ambassador program.
Attend staff/student-planned community development activities and educational events.
Ensure supervises are implementing the Curriculum in their areas effectively.
Serve as a primary hearing officer for the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution, adjudicating low and mid-level cases involving alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
Facilities & OperationsManage the administrative aspects of two residential buildings, including administering room inventory reports, executing health and safety inspections, key inventories, room changes, and other details related to the opening and closing of the residential community.
Promptly follow up on concerns in residential areas to ensure concerns are being resolved in a timely and professional manner.
Assume overall responsibility of a residential community, monitoring and reporting concerns related to safety and facilities in the area.
Ensure daily maintenance and custodial issues are managed effectively and efficiently.
Oversee the opening and closing of assigned residential areas, as well as the transition to summer student and conference housing.
Prepare an end-of-year report to document success, challenges, and inner workings of the residential community.
Student SupportMeet individually with students and, when appropriate, with parents to assist them in making appropriate choices and utilizing appropriate resources to help foster success at RWU.
Serve as on-call professional staff on a rotating basis during weekend and evening hours to respond to residential emergencies dealing with student behavior, mental health emergencies, and other situations that require an immediate response.
Follow up with on-call concerns and Students of Concern cases as directed.
Create and support student recognition initiatives, lead recruitment and hiring initiatives, and promote leadership opportunities.
Maintain a professional relationship with students, staff, and colleagues.
Offer assistance and support to students through regular contact and conducting wellness checks upon request.
Staff ManagementSupervise, assist in training, and mentor one Graduate Community Director.
Formally evaluate assigned staff on a semesterly or yearly basis as appropriate.
Maintain one-on-one meetings with the Graduate Community Director on a weekly to bi-weekly basis to ensure adequate supervision and to follow up on any issues.
Maintain one-on-one meetings with directly supervised Resident Assistants on a bi-weekly basis to ensure adequate supervision and to follow up.
Supervise, mentor, evaluate, and make recommendations for a staff of at least two Head Resident Assistants (HRA) and up to 25 Resident Assistants (RA).
Assist in the development and facilitation of staff training and onboarding.
Participate in the development and facilitation of Resident Assistant selection, hiring, and placement.
Develop, implement, and assess semi-annual training programs and weekly staff meetings for the purpose of staff education and ongoing professional development of the residence life paraprofessional team.
