Position:Manufacturing Training Manager Summary
The Training Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining training programs to satisfy the following needs:
- Transform new hires into contributing team members as smoothly as possible.
- Cross-train existing production employees and document the status of cross-training in order to build a versatile workforce that can “move to the work.”
- Facilitate both remedial and developmental training for existing workers.
- Improve workforce awareness and compliance to safety and environmental requirements.
- Create the administrative structure that ensures the above needs continue to be met into the future.
This role collaborates closely with departmental stakeholders and subject matter experts to assess training requirements and to create training materials, including presentations, videos, how-to job-aids, “playbooks” and assessments, both written and practical, to ensure knowledge retention. The Training Manager supports the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program by integrating safety and environmental requirements into training content and delivery. Additional duties include scheduling and delivering classroom and hands‑on training, coordinating with outside training resources, and maintaining a database of training records (currently in Trakstar Learn).
Responsibilitiesand Accountabilities
- Partner with subject matter experts and department leaders to assess training needs and develop programs aligned with business and manufacturing requirements.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate training using a blend of classroom, hands‑on, e‑learning and on‑the‑job methods.
- Support new hire onboarding, probationary development, refresher training, and targeted improvement plans for existing employees.
- Establish and maintain cross‑training programs to reduce single‑point dependencies and increase workforce flexibility.
- Develop and maintain a company‑wide skills matrix, including defined job skill progression levels.
- Create and administer written and practical assessments to verify knowledge retention and job proficiency.
- Coordinate training schedules with managers and employees to ensure effective participation and minimal production disruption.
- Support manufacturing safety initiatives through safety training, shop‑floor engagement, and reinforcement of safe work practices.
- Assist with safety training recordkeeping, basic safety metrics, and corrective action follow‑up under guidance of EHS leadership.
- Maintain accurate, company‑wide training records within the learning management system (currently Trakstar Learn).
- Continuously evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements to programs and processes.
- Work with external training providers and vendors as needed to supplement internal training resources.
- Ensure team members always work in a safe manner for the safety of themselves as well as co‑workers, and report all unsafe conditions and injuries, no matter how slight, immediately.
