the city of bristol, tennessee is seeking a motivated and skilled engineering construction inspector to support and lead engineering inspection in all phases of public works construction. This role is responsible for inspecting water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and street construction associated with development projects, capital improvements and maintenance to ensure compliance with city standards and applicable regulations.

this position may be filled at the level i, ii, or iii classification depending on qualifications and experience.

• perform construction inspections to verify compliance with city standards.
• conduct and/or observe installation and testing of utilities, asphalt, and concrete per established procedures.
• ensure testing and disinfection meet awwa requirements.
• provide guidance to and participate in training of department employees and work crews.
• monitor construction sites for appropriate safety measures and traffic control.
• perform snow removal to help ensure the safety of employees and the public.
• perform related duties as assigned.

• entry‑level inspection tasks under supervision.
• high school diploma and 3 years of related experience.
• valid driver’s license.
• osha 10 hr safety training (obtain within 6 months of hire).
• obtain within 12 months of hire: workzone flagger training; tdec level 1 fundamentals of erosion prevention and sediment control; tdot concrete field testing technician course.

• more complex inspections independently.
• high school diploma and 5 years of related experience.
• all level i requirements.
• obtain within 12 months of hire: tdot soils technician course; americans with disability act training; nassco – pipeline assessment certification program.

• may manage small to medium construction projects with supervision.
• high school diploma and 10 years of related experience.
• all level i and ii requirements.
• obtain within 12 months of hire: apwa certified public infrastructure inspector (or associate’s degree in engineering technology or related field); tdec level 2 fundamentals of erosion prevention and sediment control; trench safety training; nassco – lateral assessment certification program.

• work is performed primarily on site with exposure to construction activities, equipment, noise, weather, confined spaces, hazardous chemicals, and traffic.
• requires lifting 50 pounds or more.
