Material Handler - Shipping
Reports to:
Shipping Supervisor SUMMARY
The Material Handler will be responsible for performing all material handling functions associated with stocking, pulling and loading products. This position will also be required to operate a lift truck in order to move stock to and from the warehouse as well as to load trucks for shipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMay include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Pick up and move molding from pack lines.
- Pick up and place molding into staging areas or stock areas.
- Pick up and move molding from staging areas or stock areas and load onto trucks for shipment.
- Put molding into units and band for shipment.
- Read “pick sheet” and select cartons of molding and move to staging area or onto a truck for shipment.
- Read pickup list to pull and load cartons on non-motorized cart to transport to tally line.
- Use “loading sheet” to select and load molding onto trucks in correct sequence.
- Perform required daily maintenance checklist on lift truck.
- Unload and place inventory into an inventive empty cartons set to stock.
- Count molding cartons and verify amounts.
- Maintain level of quality with established standards.
- Comply with established safety rules and use required safety equipment.
- Comply with company policy and procedures.
- Maintain constructive working relationships with co‑workers, leads, supervisors and managers.
- Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned to satisfy the requirement of the supervisor and/or lead.
- Lead the implementation and execution of the HSE program.
- Demonstrate personal commitment to HSE compliance by leading by example, being knowledgeable about safety policies/procedures, and understanding environmental permits and policies.
- Share personal safety stories and lead shift safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Foster an environment of openness, trust, and mutual respect to enhance HSE performance.
- Regularly communicate HSE policies and expectations, holding direct reports accountable.
- Conduct frequent safety observations, identify and correct workplace hazards, and coach employees.
- Ensure that working safely is a condition of employment.
- Support and adhere to Westlake HSE initiatives such as Life Critical Rules, Safe Start, and the STAR program.
- Facilitate safety training for employees.
- Provide injury response and case management, and lead or participate in accident investigations.
- Use formal corrective action and recognition to encourage desired behaviors.
- Achieve site metrics by completing assigned HSE tasks and ensuring direct reports do the same.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree desired.
- Experience:
Six (6) to twelve (12) months of related experience in a shipping environment. Prior experience in operating a Lift Truck / Forklift strongly desired. - Skills:
Demonstrated computer aptitude, Ability to perform basic math functions, Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, and memory. - Communication:
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Ability to present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients and other employees within the organization. - Physical Demands: The physical demands of the job require that an employee:
1) successfully perform essential functions of the job,
2) frequently perform a lot of shifting (walking, knifing, crouch, etc.). - The description above is intended to describe essential functions and is not a complete description of all duties.
