Responsibilities
  • Help ensure the health and safety of the children in your care.
  • Work alongside qualified Early Years Practitioners to provide a safe, stimulating environment that encourages children to reach their full potential.
  • Support the setting in maintaining a welcoming place for children and their parents.
  • Contribute to both individual and group activities for the children.
  • Be a key person ensuring each child’s individual needs are met, help children settle, build relationships with children and parents, and keep accurate learning and development records under the guidance of Early Years Practitioners.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents, ensuring that all relevant information is available and shared daily regarding their child’s welfare.
  • Work as part of a flexible team, sometimes supporting other rooms or locations within the Trust.
  • Attend staff training, provide feedback to colleagues, and stay up to date with childcare information.
  • Use the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage to support children’s development.
  • Follow Trust and Childcare Services Department policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to quality assurance schemes and attend parents’ evenings to discuss children’s progress and development.
  • Attend staff meetings, appraisals and support continuous professional development.
  • Promote equal opportunities, valuing diversity and maintaining a culturally sensitive environment.
  • Adhere to the setting’s dress code and confidentiality requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Basic early years experience with children under five.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety.
  • Basic understanding of how an early years setting operates.
  • Child Protection training.
  • Food safety training.
  • Effective communication skills to contribute to teamwork.
  • Effective writing skills for completing children’s written assessments and other paperwork.
  • Imaginative skills to contribute to planned activities organised by qualified Early Years Practitioners.
Essential Criteria
  • Formal education.
  • Experience in a childcare setting.
  • NHS experience.
  • Experience of children under 5.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of children’s needs.
  • Able to show initiative.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Show a responsible attitude.
  • Team player.
Applicant Requirements

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) and Order 2020. A disclosure will be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous convictions.
