Position: Installation & Service Field Engineer vacancy   065DM)

Installation & Service Field Engineer vacancy in Bristol
- Sheffield
- Newcastle (065DM)

The aptitude, attitude, and personality of the candidate are more important than formal qualifications or direct industry experience. Our client does not expect applicants to have prior experience within the retail tagging or RFID sector; in fact, coming from outside the industry may be viewed positively. They are looking for individuals with strong problem‑solving ability, a practical mindset, and excellent customer‑facing skills who are eager to learn and develop.

They are seeking to recruit 3 technicians, ideally located within the following regions:

  • Bristol
  • Sheffield
  • Newcastle

These locations are intended as guidelines rather than strict requirements. For example, an exceptional candidate based in Cardiff instead of Bristol would not be excluded from consideration.

Job Purpose

To install, commission, maintain, and support retail tagging and RFID security systems at customer locations. The role is responsible for ensuring systems operate at peak performance, minimising downtime, and delivering an excellent customer experience within retail environments.

Key Responsibilities Installation & Commissioning
  • Install and configure EAS systems (RF & AM), RFID readers, antennas, and tablet‑style devices in accordance with project specifications and guidance from Project Managers.
  • Install and set up security antennas, detachers, and deactivators.
  • Integrate RFID systems with POS, inventory management, and marketing platforms.
  • Carry out full system installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Complete all required installation documentation, including commissioning records and handover reports.
Service & Maintenance
  • Conduct preventative and reactive maintenance to ensure system reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, firmware, and software faults.
  • Repair or replace defective components as required.
  • Provide both on‑site and remote technical support to customers.
  • Ensure all service activities meet agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Customer Support & Training
  • Deliver operational training to retail staff on system use and best practices.
  • Advise customers on effective tagging strategies and loss prevention solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with store management and IT teams.
  • Maintain high standards of customer satisfaction and professionalism at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in field service, technical support, or systems installation.
  • Experience with RFID, EAS, or retail technology is advantageous but not essential.
Technical Skills
  • Understanding of low‑voltage electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of RFID technology and tagging processes.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and wiring schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routers, Wi‑Fi).
  • Competent PC skills and general IT literacy.
  • Understanding of fundamental electrical and mechanical engineering principles.
Additional Requirements
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the UK, with occasional overseas travel.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours when required.
  • Physically capable of lifting equipment and performing on‑site installations.
Benefits
  • Enrolment into the Company Pension Scheme
  • Private Health Scheme
  • Twenty‑five days of annual leave excluding Bank Holidays
