A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and knowledgeable Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon (10 PA) to contribute to the elective recovery of the Urology service within North Bristol NHS Trust, delivered at Weston General Hospital and Southmead Hospital.
Candidates with subspecialty interest(s) complementing the needs of the department are encouraged to apply. The duration of this post will be 6 months, extending if 12 months if required.
Based at Southmead Hospital and
Weston General Hospital the BUI is a tertiary referral centre and is the largest Urology department in the South West and one of the largest in the country, offering care for all urological conditions. The department is well supported by oncologists from the Bristol Haematology and Oncology centre and by a group of experienced and dedicated Cancer Nurse Specialists and Specialist Nurse Practitioners.
We are a close-knit team, across all levels and value collaborative working. We also welcome new ideas as we are constantly striving to improve our service to all our patients.

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Bristol Urology Institute (BUI).
The BUI delivers general and specialised urology services in BNSSG, for the larger Urology Area Network and the Southwest.
The BUI is a tertiary referral centre and is the largest Urology department in the South West and one of the largest in the country, offering care for all urological conditions.
The BUI has a long history of urological research which has led to developments in the fields of urodynamics, robotic surgery and cancer care. We are proud of our achievements and keen to continue our successes into the future.

Job responsibilitiesThe postholder will also contribute towards the provision of emergency urology services.
The postholder will work a flexible job plan of 10PA per week. This will assist the department in achieving its targets in both cancer and non-cancer urology.
Person Specification Qualifications and Registration- FRCS (or equivalent).
- Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
- Must have CCT in Urology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of the appointment.
- Specialist registrars that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date.
- Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS).
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience including higher surgical/medical training, three years as a Senior Registrar in an approved training post, or equivalent. Part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training potential.
- Training in diagnosis and treatment of General urology and LUTS management and superficial bladder cancer.
- Fellowship Training.
- Evidence of recent CME / reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
- Experience in audit project and written up.
- Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues.
- Knowledge of political context within which we operate.
- Completion of a general management course or programme.
- Proven teaching ability.
- Willingness to undertake teaching of medical undergraduates & postgraduates.
- Proven track record in research.
- Willingness to undertake further research.
- Ability to gain the trust and confidence of colleagues and patients.
- Ability to teach effectively.
- Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams.
- Have a positive attitude towards members of the wider healthcare team.
