Cardiothoracic Surgery FellowApplications are invited for a highly motivated individual. The post is for a period of 1 year to commence from August 2026 and would suit an individual wishing to gain experience in complex aortic surgery.
Main Duties of the JobThis post will join a team that is part of a new investment in our junior medical workforce and will be based in the Bristol Heart Institute. The new Bristol Heart Institute was opened in 2009 and it delivers 1500‑1600 adult cardiac operations on an annual basis. You will be joining a dynamic team of surgeons with an international clinical and academic reputation.
Our centre specialises in the whole range of adult cardiac surgery with the exception of transplantation and ventricular assist devices. There are 5 fully equipped modern cardiac surgery theatres, of which one is hybrid (shared with Cardiology). Critical care support is provided within a modern 19‑bed Critical Care area staffed by dedicated cardiac intensive care specialists.
This post will offer excellent clinical, teaching and research facilities with possibilities to develop and consolidate your surgical expertise in all areas of cardiac surgery.

Person Specification Knowledge and Experience- The applicant should have previous NHS hospital experience or be familiar with a similar system
- Previous cardiothoracic surgery experience
- Previous research and audit experience
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Effective information technology skills
- Competence in medical statistics
- Full GMC registration with license to practice
- MRCS membership or similar basic surgical training certification
