Overview
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is seeking a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Surgery to join our established surgical team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading specialist children's hospitals, providing high-quality surgical care to children and young people across the South West.

Main duties of the jobYou will contribute to the delivery of elective and emergency paediatric surgical services, participate in the on-call rota, and support the ongoing development of a busy surgical unit. The role also includes supervision of junior doctors, involvement in MDT discussions, and opportunities to engage in teaching and service improvement.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- or Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
- or Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
- FRCS (Paed Surg) or equivalent
- Recognised period of specialist training in paediatric surgery APLS provider or equivalent
- Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
- Evidence of thorough and broad Paediatric Surgical training and experience
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
- Evidence of a special interest and expertise in Colorectal and/or Thoracic surgery.
- Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
- Broad range of IT skills
- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
- Positive approach to evidence based practice
- Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
- Knowledge of the principles involved in research
- Evidence of involvement in clinical and/or basic science research
- Evidence of peer reviewed publications in paediatric surgery research papers
- Ability to increase the academic profile of the department
- Proven track record in research and willingness to participate in research as a Consultant.
