Monarch Education is working with a specialist SEMH school in the BS16 area of Bristol to recruit a full‑time Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible.
The school supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils may display challenging behaviour and require consistent, structured support to help them engage with education and manage their emotions.
This role involves working closely with pupils on a one‑to‑one and small group basis, supporting both their learning and behaviour throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one‑to‑one support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Support small groups with classroom activities and interventions
- Help pupils regulate behaviour and follow structured routines
- Work alongside teachers to deliver lessons and adapt activities
- Use de‑escalation techniques and follow behaviour support plans
- Build positive and consistent relationships with pupils
- Support pupils’ social and emotional development
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to staff
- Work closely with teachers, SENCO and wider support teams
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
- Experience in a UK school, alternative provision or similar setting
- Calm, consistent and patient approach
- Able to build trust and maintain professional boundaries
This role would suit someone with a background in youth work, support work or education who is used to working in structured environments with pupils who need additional support.
