Job Overview

Hamilton College seeks an Assistant or Associate Director of Career Development to integrate industry experience with career coaching for students. The role focuses on guiding students through career exploration, skill building, and transition from college to career, while leveraging professional networks to create opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as primary career coach for students across eight career community industries.
  • Assist students in assessing interests, skills, values, and connecting them to career paths.
  • Provide guidance on internships, jobs, and graduate school including resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking, and salary negotiation.
  • Translate industry knowledge into practical advice on hiring processes, timelines, and expectations.
  • Help students develop and execute long‑term career strategies.
  • Design and deliver workshops and programs to enhance industry accessibility.
  • Leverage professional networks for meaningful connections, learning opportunities, and employer engagement.
  • Support students in using tools such as Handshake, Linked In, and My Hamilton Connect.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on communications, programming, and curriculum development.
  • Contribute to signature Career Center events and initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of access, equity, and inclusion in all career education activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree a plus.
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience (e.g., finance, consulting, government, law, science, tech, analytics).
  • Understanding of hiring processes within the field.
  • Ability to translate professional experience into actionable guidance for students.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Interest in mentoring, coaching, or developing others.
  • Experience working with college students or higher education setting (preferred).
  • Program planning, training, or client‑facing experience (preferred).
  • Comfort learning and leveraging new technologies, including AI‑enabled tools.
Time Allocation

Career Advising & Student Engagement: 90% Program Development & Implementation: 10%

What Makes This Role Unique

The title is Career Development, but the role requires industry perspective. You will bring industry experience while learning to coach students.

Compensation

$62,354 – $66,000 per year.
