The School of Computer Science at the University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence as a fixed-term, part-time position. The appointee will be expected to take an active role in providing high quality and innovative teaching in AI, machine learning and related areas.

The School has a long-standing track record for world-leading AI, and recent successes place us at the front‑of‑the‑line of UK AI research and teaching. The University hosts Isambard AI, the UK’s national AI supercomputing facility, leads two of the UK’s nine UKRI National AI Research Hubs (in Collective Intelligence and Information Theory), runs back‑to‑back UKRI Centres for Doctoral Training in Interactive AI and Practice‑Oriented AI, and has recently launched an innovative undergraduate degree in Computer Science with AI.

Bristol’s world‑class AI research spans applied and theoretical work in intelligent agents, machine learning, machine vision, reasoning, and reinforcement learning, and tackles problems in multimodal and interactive AI. We solve interdisciplinary challenges in collaboration with researchers in creative technologies, the environmental and life sciences, and robotics, and hold joint appointments with industry including Google Deep Mind and Amazon. The successful candidate will have, or be working towards, a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline (or equivalent industrial experience). They will have experience of teaching at university level and the ability to undertake teaching in artificial intelligence, machine learning and related areas. They will have a commitment to impart knowledge to undergraduate and postgraduate students in an enthusiastic and effective manner, and a proven teaching record relevant to the School’s taught programmes.

The successful candidate will be able to design and deliver excellent teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and will be committed to making the most of growing opportunities in this area.
