Job DescriptionLead the Way in Sustainable Transport – Senior Highways & Traffic Engineer in Bristol
We’re looking for an experienced engineer to deliver innovative traffic engineering, Active Travel, and urban realm projects across the South West and beyond. This is an opportunity to shape safer, greener, and more inclusive transport networks that have a real impact on communities.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate the design and delivery of Traffic Engineering, Active Travel, and urban realm schemes, providing regular updates to the Design Lead and Project Manager.
- Support the management of project timelines, risks, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with project objectives, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and review technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
- Ensure all work meets relevant standards, project briefs, and statutory requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across AECOM and external stakeholders to support integrated project delivery.
- Delegate tasks to graduates and technicians, and actively mentor providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development.
- Champion Health & Safety best practices, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations throughout the design process.
We’re looking for a confident and capable engineer with strong experience in traffic engineering and Active Travel design. You’ll be passionate about delivering sustainable, high-quality infrastructure that improves mobility, safety, and the environment.
Qualifications- Experience in concept, preliminary, and detailed design of Active Travel, local roads and traffic engineering schemes and expertise in infrastructure for walking, cycling, bus priority, and traffic calming.
- Strong knowledge of design elements such as drainage, junctions, and carriageway improvements.
- Familiarity with relevant design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, and the Traffic Signs Manual.
- Understanding of Health & Safety and CDM regulations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
