Position: Technical Manager (Flood Risk)

Technical Manager (Flood Risk) – Bristol

This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.

Core duties and responsibilities
  • Lead the development of 1D, 2D and integrated hydraulic models using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Info Works ICM, HEC‑RAS or similar.
  • Oversee and deliver Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), Surface Water Management Plans and Flood Consequence Assessments.
  • Oversee hydrological assessments, including FEH, ReFH2, and statistical analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and quality assurance for junior modellers and analysts.
  • Prepare high‑quality technical reports, models, and presentations.
  • Support bids, proposals, and business development activities.
  • Ensure all work meets industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project deadlines.
To be successful in this role you will
  • Hold a degree in environmental science, engineering or a similar subject with significant water science, hydrology, or hydraulics content.
  • Have proven experience liaising with clients, regulators (EA, LLFAs, water companies), and multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Hold chartered status from an appropriate institution.
  • Have strong proficiency in at least one major modelling platform (e.g. Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, ICM).
  • Have excellent understanding of UK and Scotland flood policy, NPPF, EA guidance, and drainage standards.
  • Possess knowledge of water resource management (advantageous).
  • Have proven ability in the leadership and motivation of individuals.
  • Have commercial experience of producing winning tenders and understanding commercial risk and influencing strategic decision-making within the business.
  • Possess excellent consultancy, communication and interpersonal skills with a good working relationship with all levels of the organisation, clients and contractors.
