Technical Manager (Flood Risk) – Bristol
This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.
Core duties and responsibilities- Lead the development of 1D, 2D and integrated hydraulic models using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Info Works ICM, HEC‑RAS or similar.
- Oversee and deliver Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), Surface Water Management Plans and Flood Consequence Assessments.
- Oversee hydrological assessments, including FEH, ReFH2, and statistical analysis.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and quality assurance for junior modellers and analysts.
- Prepare high‑quality technical reports, models, and presentations.
- Support bids, proposals, and business development activities.
- Ensure all work meets industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project deadlines.
- Hold a degree in environmental science, engineering or a similar subject with significant water science, hydrology, or hydraulics content.
- Have proven experience liaising with clients, regulators (EA, LLFAs, water companies), and multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Hold chartered status from an appropriate institution.
- Have strong proficiency in at least one major modelling platform (e.g. Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, ICM).
- Have excellent understanding of UK and Scotland flood policy, NPPF, EA guidance, and drainage standards.
- Possess knowledge of water resource management (advantageous).
- Have proven ability in the leadership and motivation of individuals.
- Have commercial experience of producing winning tenders and understanding commercial risk and influencing strategic decision-making within the business.
- Possess excellent consultancy, communication and interpersonal skills with a good working relationship with all levels of the organisation, clients and contractors.
