Sustainability Consultant & BREEAM Assessor

Location: Bristol
Working Policy: Hybrid
Starting Salary: £30,000 – £40,000

Are you passionate about driving sustainability in the built environment? Do you want to make a tangible impact on achieving net zero targets and improving environmental performance? We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a Sustainability Consultant and BREEAM Assessor to join our clients growing Energy and Sustainability team. Based at their head office in Bristol, you will work closely with our M&E and Building Physics teams to deliver meaningful change across a diverse portfolio of projects.

Day-to-Day
  • Collaborating with clients and design teams to deliver sustainability certifications and assessments.
  • Preparing energy strategies, sustainability statements, and resource efficiency analyses.
  • Managing project workflows, financial performance, and reporting.
  • Engaging with clients to build long‑term relationships and secure new opportunities.
  • Staying informed about industry trends and sharing knowledge with the team.
  • Supporting junior team members and contributing to their growth.
  • Conducting whole‑life carbon and embodied carbon assessments as required.
Responsibilities
  • Taking ownership of sustainability certification processes, delivering BREEAM, HQM, and similar rating assessments in collaboration with clients and design teams.
  • Contributing to a diverse portfolio of projects, adapting to varying client and project requirements.
  • Providing a broad range of sustainability services, including planning‑stage energy strategies, sustainability statements, and resource efficiency analysis (energy and water).
  • Overseeing project delivery, including coordinating workflows across teams, monitoring financial performance, and managing invoicing and reporting.
  • Supporting business growth through involvement in tender submissions, preparing fee proposals, and helping secure new work.
  • Developing and nurturing strong client relationships, both at project level and across longer‑term strategic partnerships.
  • Staying up to date with evolving industry standards and policies, such as net zero targets and regulatory changes, and sharing insights with the wider team.
  • Supporting or managing junior team members and contributing to their professional development.
  • Engaging in whole‑life carbon and embodied carbon assessments where project scope and experience allow.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrable experience delivering environmental certification projects, particularly BREEAM, with a strong track record of achieving high ratings.
  • Accreditation as a BREEAM Assessor (essential); additional accreditation such as BREEAM AP is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with a range of sustainability frameworks (e.g., HQM, WELL, SKA, Fitwel, CEEQUAL, DREAM, or similar).
  • A solid understanding of current sustainability drivers, including net zero carbon strategies, LETI guidance, and relevant UK regulations.
  • Experience managing or contributing to energy and sustainability consultancy services across project life cycles.
  • Exposure to embodied carbon and life cycle assessment methodologies (beneficial but not essential).
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, including design teams and clients, across concurrent projects.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing deadlines effectively.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both in written reports and verbal interactions.
  • A genuine interest in sustainable design and improving environmental performance within the built environment.
