These roles can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.
What does the role involve?Working within a team environment you’ll utilise your technical expertise to ensure the provision of a multi‑disciplinary consultancy service for Sweco’s clients working on the delivery of groundwater resources projects, from aquifer development, management and protection for public and private water supply to EIA and construction support for major infrastructure schemes and local developments.
Examples of projects that our groundwater team are working on at present include long‑term water quality and water resources investigations for the WINEP and other drivers, as well as the development of private water supplies. We are also supporting major highways schemes, water companies and private developers on schemes across the country from the preliminary design and EIA stage through to construction, via the design and implementation of groundwater monitoring and testing programmes, groundwater flooding studies, dewatering assessment and permitting.
As a Hydrogeologist you’ll support with technical work including fieldwork, calculations, and the preparation of drawings, sketches and reports. You’ll carry out investigations within agreed time frames, budgets and client expectations. You’ll utilise your technical expertise to develop services within existing clients and cultivate new clients.
- A BSc and preferably either a MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or a closely related discipline.
- Have the desire to work towards achieving chartered membership with a relevant professional body such as the Geological Society or CIWEM.
- Relevant professional experience (no less than 3 years), primarily in water resources hydrogeology, engineering hydrogeology (including dewatering) and environmental impact assessment. Experience in borehole construction, rehabilitation, testing and abandonment is of benefit.
- The ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members, contractors and clients.
- The ability to produce well‑structured reports in clear English, and to critically review reports produced by others.
- The ability to maintain good links within the wider groundwater community to enhance technical knowledge, and to build and maintain contacts that may provide opportunities for collaboration or business development.
