Are you passionate about sustainable building design and want to join a leading independent sustainability and engineering consultancy?
We are looking for a passionate and innovative building physics engineer/sustainability consultant to join our growing Building Physics & Building Performance Engineering department. You will play a key role in delivering dynamic computer simulation models, inputting and analysing data, and liaising with design teams to support low-energy, low-carbon, and high-comfort buildings across a range of sectors. An appreciation of thermodynamics, sustainable building design, and energy systems is essential.
Working closely with architects, MEP engineers, sustainability consultants, and clients, you will influence design decisions from early concept through to detailed design and delivery, helping to ensure compliance, performance, and best practice.
Based in one of our collaborative offices, you will have the opportunity to expand your skillset and gain invaluable knowledge from other team members, whilst working closely with our other business groups.
Method operates a hybrid working policy so this will be a blend of the office and working remotely.
Salary range: £30k to £45k depending on experience.

Role and ResponsibilitiesLead and undertake dynamic thermal modelling of buildings to assess energy use, overheating risk, and day lighting (using IES or Rhino)
Assess projects against Part L/Part O, CIBSE TM52/59, EPCs, CIBSE TM54/NABERS, Passive House accreditation or compliance.
Performing daylight and sunlight assessments using climate daylight modelling software.
Utilise modelling to feed into targeting relevant BREEAM credits.
Support Net Zero Carbon and operational energy strategies in line with UKGBC, LETI, RIBA 2030 and local planning requirements
Act as a key technical contact on projects, liaising with clients, architects, and wider design teams
Working closely with the BIM Manager to assist with everyday tasks and deadlines
Provide clear, well-structured technical reports and presentations
Support planning submissions, design team meetings, and client workshops
Manage workloads on multiple projects and contribute to programme planning
Support the development of internal tools, workflows, and best practice guidance
Stay up to date with UK regulations, standards, and emerging best practice
Experience and QualificationsEducated to degree level in physical sciences or any engineering discipline – for example physics, mechanical or electrical engineering, building services engineering, environmental engineering or architectural engineering.
Ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of working experience in the same/similar role.
Strong proficiency in IES VE software
In depth knowledge of relevant UK regulations and guidance, including Building Regulations Part L/Part O, CIBSE TM52/TM59/TM54, BREEAM, UK NZCBS and NABERS UK.
Experience in operational energy assessments, including detailed HVAC modelling.
Experience in supporting planning applications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A passion for sustainable building design and reducing the carbon emissions of the built environment
Ability to adapt to new situations quickly and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary team
Experience in Rhino software is desirable, but not essential
Experience in coding (using programs such as Python), Revit and AUTOCAD is desirable, but not essential.
Chartered or working towards Chartered status (CIBSE, IMechE, or similar)
