Speech & Language Therapy Team Lead / School Age Therapist
The Children's Therapy Services work with children and young people aged 0-18, identifying needs, providing assessment, and delivering support that makes a real difference to their health and development. We work closely with families in their homes and health settings, as well as with education partners in early years and school environments. Our teams cover Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, with services delivered across these areas to ensure families can access support as easily as possible.
This combined leadership and clinical role offers the chance to continue developing your own clinical expertise while guiding and supporting a talented team of School Age Speech and Language Therapists. It offers a balance of direct therapeutic work and the opportunity to shape and strengthen service delivery.
The post is made up of 0.6 sessions as a Band 7 Lead for the Bristol School Age Team, alongside 0.2 sessions as a Band 6 clinical therapist in South Gloucestershire. You can find both job descriptions in the documents section of this advert.
Main duties of the job- To practise as a highly specialist clinical practitioner, being a source of expertise, providing support, supervision, teaching, advice and consultation across BNSSG. To offer highly specialist clinical expertise within a specified clinical area and to carry own highly specialist case load within a specified clinical area.
- You will collaborate with Professional Leads to manage the Speech & Language Therapy Service
- You will have line management responsibilities of some staff and be responsible for holding team meetings.
- You will support the overview of locality performance on RTTs and EHCP targets
- You will be working with Operational Leads & data teams on EMIS optimisation.
- To provide clinical and day to day leadership for a therapy discipline within a designated locality and be a first point of contact for the team for queries and concerns.
- To use discretion in the interpretation of departmental policies. This may include decision making on queries raised by the locality team members around aspects of policy implementation. Post-holder would refer significant queries to relevant Professional Lead.
- To support the Professional Lead/Head of Service with accountability and responsibility for the activity, performance, outcomes and clinical governance of the designated therapy team in the locality
- Support the Professional Lead/Head of Service with recruitment including interviewing and induction for new recruitment

Person Specification Experience & Skills- Experience of project / service improvement work
- Experience of line management
- Ability to interpret professional standards and guidelines and relate them to clinical service delivery
- Experience of working collaboratively with Local Authority and Education partners, either at a leadership level or at a clinical level
- Experience of initiating, implementing and managing change and service improvement
- Previous experience in Clinical Specialist role
- Degree level qualification recognised by Professional Governing Body (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists/Chartered Society of Physiotherapists/ Royal College of Occupational Therapists)
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of Master Level post qualification accredited training and participation in ongoing regular CPD in area of clinical specialism (e.g. Bobath training, Post-grad accredited Dysphagia training
