The ASC Staff RN provides direct nursing care to patients by performing pre-operative assessment and preparing the patients for surgery in accordance with facility and organizational policies, meeting the standards of professional nursing practice, as well as intraoperative care and post-operative care. This person is accountable for using experience and judgement/nursing skills to plan for the appropriate care for patients. Consistently remains calm and applies judgement during stressful situations, always putting the needs of the patient first.
Responsibilities- Provide direct nursing care to patients, including pre-operative assessment, intraoperative care, and post-operative care in accordance with facility policies and professional nursing standards.
- Utilize the nursing process to care for patients and maintain knowledge of nursing techniques and principles to ensure complete and competent care.
- Ensure clear, concise, and complete EHR documentation.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team; act as a patient advocate.
- Comply with safety, infection control standards/policies and with all center policies and procedures.
- Follow nursing standards and protocols; maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Demonstrate flexibility in areas of assignment and follow pain management assessment procedures and identification of abuse/neglect.
- Adhere to OSHA Safety, Fire and Emergency Preparedness guidelines.
- Perform additional functions as requested by the Nurse Manager, including stocking and maintaining supplies, end-of-day narcotic counts, and patient chart reviews.
- Collaborate with physicians on orders and review lab values, EKGs, and x-ray reports; document care and charges accordingly.
- Provide prescribed medications and other pharmaceutical products in accordance with physician orders.
- Remain prepared for emergencies and utilize correct emergency procedures and locations of emergency call systems and equipment.
- Administer medications and perform treatments to assigned patients; participate in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Current, valid RN license in the state of practice.
- BLS Certification; CPR, ACLS and PALS certification required.
- Two years of PACU, ICU, ER, or OR experience preferred.
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
- Thorough knowledge to provide patient care appropriate to all ages and developmental levels.
- Maintains current knowledge and skills in department policies and procedures, with the ability to implement appropriately.
- Uses problem-solving techniques in resolution of patient care issues; acts as a patient advocate.
- Prolonged standing/walking; ability to assist with lifting and moving patients and equipment.
- Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching as required.
- Regular exposure to blood borne pathogens, diseases, and infections.
- Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals and radiology equipment.
