Ross Stores is a leading off‑price retailer with over 2,200 stores nationwide. The Area Supervisor will be part of the Store Leadership team, managing a specific area of the store and overseeing general operations when acting as Manager on Duty.

General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is responsible for opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly and safe environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing all company operational processes.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything done.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment. Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
  • Responsible for security of building including entrance/exit control, EAS device daily function checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.
  • Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Responsible for customer safety including accident prevention, accident reporting and emergency procedures.
  • Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled. Respond to after-hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with company dress code. Ensure all associates adhere to the dress code at all times.
  • Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per best practice.
  • Responsible for receiving merchandise truck when needed.
  • Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
  • Responsible for receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (signs, supplies, special deliveries, etc.).
  • Responsible for cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
  • Help deliver and place merchandise on sales floor when all merchandise is processed.
  • Responsible for ensuring any back‑stock is secured and processed to company policy.
  • Responsible for merchandising of department including the back stock.
  • Responsible for reduction of loss due to damage.
  • Ensure compliance to the monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area.
  • Responsible for floor moves and signing including promotional signing as needed.
  • Responsible for re‑wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention
  • Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and be responsible for store loss prevention which includes maintaining a large customer service presence on the sales floor, customer and associate engagement and heightened loss prevention awareness.
  • As a representative of Ross Leadership, demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions with associates and customers. Safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card information and merchandise.
  • Ensure Public View Monitor (PVM) system is maintained properly.
  • Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
  • Execute all company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Execute all company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches when working. Ensure associates are executing to company standards at the front end.
  • Maintain pace, energy and “presence” at the front end, managing the line to expedite customers’ wait time.
  • Train and coach on cash registers, shortage control policies and other front end procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.
  • Control retail associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches and breaks.
  • Ensure all equipment is working properly.
  • Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the front end area.
