Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Project Manager (Senior Manager) – Commercial Fire Sprinkler Systems

Overview

We are conducting a confidential search for an established and highly successful specialty mechanical contractor seeking an experienced Project Manager for its commercial sprinkler systems team.

The position is open due to an internal promotion and continued company growth. The business is performing very well, maintains a strong pipeline of major regional projects, and continues to invest in its people, technology, fabrication capabilities, and project delivery platform.

This is an opportunity to manage large, technically complex commercial water-based sprinkler projects throughout Greater Boston. The work centers on mechanical piping and water-based life-safety systems, including fire pumps, standpipes, risers, wet and dry sprinkler systems, preaction systems, zone controls, underground water service, and building-wide distribution piping.

The opportunity

The Project Manager will lead multiple projects from initial turnover through construction, testing, and final closeout. This is a true project ownership position with responsibility for financial performance, field execution, schedule, client relationships, and overall delivery.

The role works closely with an experienced team of project executives, superintendents, foremen, design and coordination professionals, fabrication resources, accounting partners, vendors, and subcontractors.

Primary areas of responsibility include:
  • Managing project budgets, schedules, procurement, submittals, material releases, billing, change orders, and closeout
  • Partnering with field leadership on manpower planning, labor productivity, safety, quality, and construction sequencing
  • Maintaining accurate cost-to-complete, cash-flow, labor, and job-performance projections
  • Leading communication with general contractors, owners, design teams, vendors, and internal business partners
  • Supporting and mentoring Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other developing team members

The company combines the stability and resources of a large construction organization with a collaborative, team-oriented culture and direct access to senior operational leadership.

The Project Manager will have:
  • Exposure to major healthcare, life sciences, higher education, commercial, institutional, and mission-critical projects
  • Strong internal support across field operations, coordination, design, fabrication, safety, procurement, and finance
  • Meaningful visibility with project executives and company leadership
  • The opportunity to manage sophisticated projects rather than serving in a narrowly administrative role
  • A clear path toward larger project, portfolio, and operational leadership responsibilities
  • A culture that values internal advancement, demonstrated by the promotion that created this opening
Candidate profile Qualified candidates will typically bring:
  • Approximately 12+ years of progressive commercial sprinkler construction experience
  • Direct project management responsibility for water-based sprinkler and suppression systems
  • Experience managing substantial commercial, institutional, healthcare, life sciences, education, high-rise, or mission-critical projects
  • Working knowledge of wet pipe, dry pipe, preaction, standpipe, fire pump, riser, zone-control, and underground water-service systems
  • Strong understanding of applicable NFPA standards, Massachusetts construction requirements, permitting, inspections, and acceptance testing
  • Demonstrated ownership of project financials, field labor, procurement, billing, change orders, forecasting, and closeout
  • The ability to communicate effectively with field leadership, clients, general contractors, design teams, and senior executives
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and related construction technology;
Navisworks and construction ERP experience are advantageous
  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, field experience, and industry expertise
Compensation and structure
  • Competitive base salary, depending on experience
  • Annual bonus opportunity
    401(k) match and comprehensive benefits

All inquiries will be handled confidentially. Additional company, team, and project information will be shared during the introductory process.
