SUBJECT:
Culinary Program Classroom Assistant - Brockton High School
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Brockton Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and dependable Culinary Program Classroom Assistant to support the Brockton High School Culinary Program. The Classroom Assistant will work closely with culinary classroom teachers to provide students with a safe, organized, and engaging hands-on learning environment.
The successful candidate will have experience in the culinary and/or hospitality industry and will assist with daily classroom activities, student skill development, and culinary program events, including the Culinary Café and catering events.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Serv Safe Food Handler certification required.
  • Serv Safe Food Manager certification preferred.
  • Experience in the culinary, restaurant, hospitality, food service, or catering industry, including front-of-house and/or back-of-house experience.
  • Experience working with high school students preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, kitchen safety, and proper food-handling procedures.
  • Ability to assist students in developing and practicing culinary skills and techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, and other members of the school community.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish positive and professional relationships with students.
  • Dependable, flexible, and willing to assist with a variety of classroom and program needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized culinary classroom and kitchen environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, patience, initiative, and a positive attitude when working with students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist culinary classroom teachers with daily classroom and kitchen setup and breakdown.
  • Ensure students have the appropriate supplies, equipment, ingredients, and materials needed for classroom activities.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe culinary classroom and kitchen.
  • Support students as they develop and demonstrate culinary skills and techniques.
  • Reinforce proper food safety, sanitation, kitchen safety, and workplace practices.
  • Assist students with hands-on culinary activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Assist with planning, preparing, and running culinary program events, including the Culinary Café, catering events, school functions, and other special events.
  • Assist with food preparation, presentation, service, setup, breakdown, and cleanup for culinary events.
  • Support students in developing professional skills such as teamwork, communication, customer service, time management, and workplace expectations.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining culinary equipment, ingredients, supplies, and inventory.
  • Help ensure that all classroom and kitchen activities follow appropriate safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Collaborate with culinary teachers and other school personnel to support student learning and the goals of the Culinary Program.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and promote professionalism and responsible workplace behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented, dependable, organized, and enthusiastic professional who enjoys working with students and has a passion for the culinary and hospitality industries. The candidate should be comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.

Professional experience in a restaurant, commercial kitchen, catering operation, hospitality setting, or related industry is highly valued. Experience training, mentoring, supervising, or working with high school students is a plus.

Salary: $28 to $28 Per Hour
