The Special Education Teacher is a highly qualified teacher who is responsible for the instruction, evaluation, coordination and regulatory compliance for special education students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:
Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (5-12) and/or Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities (All Levels) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary EducationBachelor's Degree from an accredited college or universityDemonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage a therapeutic and engaging learning experience for students with cognitive, social, and emotional challengesAbility to develop units of instruction that are aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common CorePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with the High School CurriculumExperience with the use of data to inform and guide educational/therapeutic decisions and practicesUnderstanding of transition planning as a continuing consideration and theme for all students from 9-12+RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:
Provide leadership and manage a classroom team of paraprofessionals and therapistsAbility to work as a productive member of the instructional team to maximize student outcomes for High School studentsConduct standardized educational evaluations and write reports based on the resultsWrite reports, develop IEPs, maintain data collection employing research-based best practice strategies to demonstrate student progress and adjust student goalsWork with expert consultants to develop effective supports systems for studentsDevelop positive relationships with familiesParticipation in a mentor programKnowledge of PBIS approachesAssist in creating and maintaining a PBIS environment throughout the dayWork as a productive member of the instructional team to maximize student outcomesAbility to recognize the need for and to provide assistance to students in an appropriately active classroom settingOther student-related assigned responsibilities as needed, including 1:1 academic assistance as neededOther duties, as assigned according to the SEA contract.EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER.
