Position Overview
Brockton Public Schools is seeking a Level II Grants & Finance Intern to support financial and grant-related operations within a public-sector environment. This applied internship is designed for students pursuing Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field, and is appropriate for college credit or practicum placement, where applicable.
This is a hands-on role intended for interns who are ready to move beyond observation and begin applying academic knowledge to real-world financial systems and processes.
Learning Focus & Applied Experience
The Level II Intern will gain exposure to:
* Public-sector financial systems and workflows
* Grant budgeting, tracking, and compliance practices
* Financial documentation, reconciliation, and reporting
* Internal controls, confidentiality standards, and professional ethics
* How finance and grants operate within a school district and municipal framework
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation, review, and organization of financial and grant-related documentation
* Support basic budget tracking, data entry, and reconciliation activities under supervision
* Learn and apply district financial systems and internal procedures
* Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling financial information
* Support grant monitoring, reporting preparation, and audit readiness activities
* Complete assigned projects that reinforce academic learning through applied practice
Expectations
* Report to work on time with a professional, positive attitude and readiness to actively contribute
* Demonstrate strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
* Show initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and apply new systems and processes
* Be receptive to feedback and able to grow in independence over the course of the internship
Preferred Qualifications
* Current enrollment in or recent completion of coursework in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Business, Economics, or a related field
* Interest in public-sector finance, education systems, or government operations
* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data management tools preferred
Additional Information
* This position may be eligible for college credit, depending on the student's academic program
* Grant-funded position with a defined term
* Hours:
Up to 20 hours per week
* Rate: $23/hourly
