Controller - Grocery​/Supermarket Operations

Controller Position

We are seeking an experienced controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for a multi-location grocery retail organization. This hands‑on role is responsible for full‑cycle accounting, financial reporting, cash management, budgeting, payroll oversight, and operational financial analysis.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in grocery or supermarket accounting and a deep understanding of weekly P&L reporting, gross margin analysis, shrink, vendor reconciliations, and multi‑location financial management.

• Manage full‑cycle accounting, including general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end close.
• Prepare weekly and monthly financial statements, P&Ls, and management reports.
• Analyze sales, payroll, gross margins, markdowns, and shrink to identify trends and opportunities.
• Oversee cash flow, banking activities, ACH/wire payments, and Positive Pay.
• Review payroll and monitor labor costs against budgets.
• Manage accounts payable and recurring operational expenses.
• Develop budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
• Partner with operational leadership to improve financial performance.
• Maintain internal controls, support audits, and ensure compliance.

Required:

• 3+ years of accounting experience within a grocery, supermarket, or food retail environment.
• Hands‑on full‑cycle accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of grocery retail financials, including shrink, gross margins, vendor reconciliations, and weekly P&L reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Preferred:

• Experience with Net Suite or similar ERP systems.
• Multi‑location retail accounting experience.
• CPA or CPA candidate.
