Overview

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks an Assistant Area Director (Administrator VI) for the Southeast Region in the Brockton Area Office. This position is the second highest DDS management role at the local level and will lead a busy, challenging, and rewarding environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in the management of a $59 million budget in contracted services and supports to 1,750 eligible individuals in the Brockton area.
  • Participate in budget planning and contracting activities with the Area Director and Regional Contracts as needed.
  • Serve as an active member of the Area Risk Review Committee, providing support in managing crisis situations, clinical issues, and conflict resolution.
  • Supervise staff, conduct performance evaluations, and ensure the work environment aligns with negotiated labor contracts and EOHHS policy. Provide training and development as needed.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain residential, day, and support programs and oversee the use of resources/funds for these programs.
  • Share 24/7 on‑call duties, supporting management during emergencies or crisis situations, and act on behalf of the Area Director when required.
  • Serve as liaison to sister agencies, community agencies, and organizations (e.g., inter‑agency teams, mental health center, crisis programs) and ensure revenue is generated appropriately for the Commonwealth.
  • Facilitate the prioritization system for the area, leading the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment Process (MASSCAP) to assess and prioritize service needs, waiver enrollment, and integration into the statewide priority database.
  • Ensure the Brockton Area Office complies with Federal and Community‑based waivers, maintaining eligibility and maximizing revenue through appropriate matching of waiver‑eligible individuals to services.
  • Review Home and Community Services Information System (HCSIS) to resolve Incident Management issues.

Schedule and Working Conditions

Full‑time – 37.5‑hour weekly position.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Days off: Saturday and Sunday). The role may involve occasional nights, weekends, and travel. On‑call responsibilities require carrying a phone for after‑hours or weekend emergencies on a rotating basis with the Area Director.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants must have at least five (5) years of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, public administration, or related fields. At least one (1) year must involve project management, supervisory, or managerial duties. Substitutions may be made as follows:

  • One year of experience can be substituted with a relevant certificate.
  • Two years of experience can be substituted with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of experience can be substituted with a graduate degree.
  • Four years of experience can be substituted with a doctorate.
