Job Title
Maintenance Mechanic 2/3 – 2nd shift start at 1:30 pm.

Key AccountabilitiesInspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining food processing and packaging machines, mechanical/utility equipment, buildings and office facilities in a USDA production environment.
Responsibilities- Perform all work as assigned while adhering to established standards associated with workmanship and safety.
- Responsible for the safe and dependable operating condition of all equipment in the facility.
- Set‑up, troubleshoot and repair stacking, bagging, check‑weighing, UPC bar‑coding, case erectors, and conveyor equipment.
- Dismantle and re‑assemble equipment to perform repairs, cleaning, and lubrication according to established maintenance schedules.
- Test, troubleshoot and repair 110/230/460 V electrical equipment including motors, starters, relays, timers, panels, breakers, conduit, and wiring.
- Read and interpret electrical control schematics for troubleshooting.
- Perform minor programming and troubleshooting of VFDs and PLCs.
- Adhere to established safety programs (e.g., lock‑out/tag‑out, ladder safety).
- Communicate effectively at all levels in the maintenance and operating departments.
- Provide rapid response when equipment malfunctions or breaks down.
- Ensure all equipment is ready prior to production.
- Ensure the building is maintained in compliance with city and fire regulations.
- Assist in coaching and training of maintenance and operating personnel.
- Fabricate parts and modify equipment as required.
- Uphold, follow, and maintain the requirements of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing.
- Other duties as may be assigned or volunteered for.
- Good verbal and written language skills to interpret procedures, comprehend instructions, and communicate effectively.
- Self‑motivated, a self‑starter and capable of working without close supervision in a team environment.
- Hard‑working, dependable, safety‑ and quality‑conscious.
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic experience in a food (USDA or FDA) manufacturing environment.
- Available to work any shift, as required.
- Proper and safe use of hand and power tools, and working on machinery.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Reading, writing and basic math skills required.
- Bilingual, English/Spanish.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Stand or walk for long periods.
- Bend and squat.
- Make fast and repetitive hand motions.
- Work in cold refrigerated and frozen conditions.
- Push/pull heavy loads using a hand jack.
- Work at 25 to 30 ft elevations using a man‑lift.
- Work on roof‑level equipment.
- Refrigerated and frozen areas.
- Food manufacturing, packaging and warehousing environment.
- Report any food safety or quality issues to supervision and/or quality assurance.
- Report any risks or evidence of unsafe or out‑of‑specification product, equipment, packaging or raw materials to a designated manager for immediate resolution.
- Mechanical troubleshooting skills.
