Position SummaryBoston Medical Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse for its 82‑bed behavioral health hospital in Brockton, MA. The hospital operates as a behavioral health accountable care organization, providing inpatient treatment and stabilization for individuals with complex mental health and substance use needs. Psychiatrically nursing clinicians are critical members of a multidisciplinary, multicultural team that focuses on delivering high‑quality behavioral health care to acute populations.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Standards of Care- Consistently and effectively utilize all steps of the nursing process to provide timely, safe, efficient patient‑centered care.
- Assess patients and families systematically for overt and covert signs and symptoms.
- Collect pertinent data using appropriate assessment techniques.
- Prioritize data according to the patient’s immediate condition or needs.
- Involve patients, families, and behavioral health providers in data collection when appropriate.
- Use clear, concise written and oral communication and comply with departmental policies when documenting relevant patient care data.
- Identify emergency/crisis situations, communicate them in a timely manner, and respond appropriately.
- Analyze assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses, demonstrating critical thinking and documentation skills.
- Derive realistic, patient‑centered outcomes consistent with diagnoses and capabilities.
- Develop measurable goals with time estimates for attainment.
- Collaboratively formulate outcomes with patients, significant others, and the care team.
- Create an individualized plan that reflects the patient’s condition, priorities, and resources.
- Align plans with current nursing practice standards, policies, and protocols.
- Coordinate internal and external referrals to support comprehensive patient care.
- Prioritize and delegate interventions based on fluctuating unit needs.
- Maintain a safe unit environment, labeling and removing hazardous equipment.
- Demonstrate technical competence in direct care skills, including phlebotomy and IV insertion.
- Administer medications per established practice standards and protocols.
- Educate patients and families about illness, treatments, and health maintenance.
- Respond to crisis situations with effective decision‑making and staff coordination.
- Document interventions per departmental policy.
- Conduct ongoing reassessments and evaluate intervention effectiveness.
- Incorporate critical thinking to revise diagnoses, outcomes, and care plans.
- Provide follow‑up care through home visits and telephone as needed.
- Document patient responses and plan revisions per policy.
- Participate in or lead quality improvement and research activities.
- Use patient satisfaction and quality data to initiate practice changes.
- Complete daily patient classification and incident reporting promptly.
- Engage in cost‑containment initiatives and practice considerations.
- Apply professional standards, statutes, and regulations in all practice aspects.
- Work independently within scope and pursue professional development continuously.
- Demonstrate flexibility, reliability, and professional appearance per dress code.
- Maintain current knowledge in psychiatric nursing principles and procedures.
- Identify and address social, psychological, and physical factors affecting patients.
