POSITION SUMMARY: Under supervision, the Recovery LPN will provide clinical and administrative support in the BMC Brockton Behavioral Health Clinical Stabilization Services (CSS) unit. The LPN will facilitate patient access to recovery-oriented SUD treatment, resources, and community recovery groups with an emphasis on medication administration and evaluation. They will maintain ongoing patient support regardless of relapse and serve as a motivator, ally, role model, problem‑solver, and advocate.

The LPN should possess a thorough understanding of addiction‑associated co‑morbidities to better tailor clinical evaluation and care and requires good organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Schedule: Part Time

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
  • Engage patients in a residential treatment setting
  • Assist with patient care: record vital signs; discuss and document chief health concerns
  • Perform and record specialized testing (including EKGs, urine HCG, and urine drug screening)
  • Prepare and administer medications safely, including immunizations, flu shots, and other injections
  • Record medication administration and maintain count of controlled substances; communicate needs to provider and on‑site pharmacy
  • Maintain a clean and orderly medication room and administration area
  • Perform quality control testing of point‑of‑care lab equipment
  • Perform nursing‑type duties specific to the department (e.g., apply dressings and other wound care as directed)
  • Triage sick complaints from residential patients; perform initial evaluation including vitals signs and report to the provider on call
  • Collaborate with the behavioral health counselor to assist patients in developing and implementing a recovery plan for adults with SUD, MH, or dual diagnoses
  • Provide ongoing support and follow‑up to promote recovery and a healthy lifestyle; understand different paths to recovery
  • Use empathetic, non‑judgmental language and employ motivational enhancement techniques and motivational interviewing to encourage patients to identify and prioritize their personal needs
  • Document patient encounters, resource development efforts, and other interventions in the electronic medical record, including date, time, and signature
  • Conform to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including patient rights and privacy
  • Utilize hospital policies and standards to guide decision making and support the hospital’s mission and goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary

JOB DESCRIPTION CHARACTERISTICS EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • LPN diploma from an accredited institution
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
  • Current license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • CPR & BLS/First Aid certified upon hire
EXPERIENCE
  • Previous experience working with substance use disorder patient populations preferred
  • Preferred proficiency in Epic EMR
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Knowledge of community, social, and health resources, particularly substance use–related resources
  • Expertise in establishing working relationships with patients, their families, professionals, and the community, including the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary health‑care team
  • Computer competency, including accessing and entering data
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with organizational skills, critical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities
  • Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to facilitate interactions with the health‑care team, patients, and families
  • Bilingual or multi‑lingual skills (beyond English) appropriate to the patient population served are preferred
  • Demonstrated flexibility with client priorities, evolving needs, and goals
  • Sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, gender, and sexual orientation diversity; values; beliefs; and behaviors
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem‑solving ability
Compensation Range

$27.64 – $38.70
