Job Summary
Under the direction of the Operations Sergeant/Director of Public Safety, the Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of staff, visitors and patients at BMC South, maintaining a safe environment, and providing visible deterrence to crime.
Responsibilities- Patrol buildings and grounds to provide visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergent and non‑emergent situations.
- Ensure that only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises.
- Escort visitors, patients and personnel to and from parking areas upon request.
- Maintain current information in lost and found logs and notify the Division of Safety (D.O.S.) and the Sergeant when items are reported missing or located.
- Serve as a member of the Fire Control Team and respond to all fires.
- Investigate incidents of unusual circumstances reported by hospital personnel, visitors, physicians or patients; provide verbal reports or complete general incident forms by the end of each shift.
- Write accurate, clear and legible incident reports and document investigatory steps and results.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required;
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years in Security/Healthcare Operations, field experience in a law‑enforcement agency or prior service in the United States Military preferred. - Certification/Licensure:
Valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Massachusetts. - Background:
Must be a person of good moral character, successfully pass a criminal and employment background screening and pre‑employment medical screening. - Software:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
