Position Summary
Security Officer in the Public Safety Department at Boston Medical Center South. Reports to the Manager of Security. Responsible for providing security and safety for staff, visitors and patients. Handles traffic, escorts, maintains lost & found logs, assists emergency response, and serves on the Fire Control Team.

- Provide visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling hospital buildings and grounds.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergent and non‑emergent situations.
- Ensure only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises.
- Escort visitors, patients, and personnel to and from parking areas upon request.
- Maintain current information in lost and found logs; notify the D.O.S. and the Sergeant of missing items.
- Serve as a member of the Fire Control Team and respond to all fires.
- Investigate incidents of unusual circumstances reported by hospital personnel, visitors, physicians, or patients.
- Report all incidents verbally or through general incident form by the end of each shift.
- Write accurate, clear, and legible incident reports and document investigatory steps and results.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice preferred. - Experience:
Minimum of 2 years in security/healthcare operations or equivalent law‑enforcement/military experience preferred. - Certification/Licensure:
Valid Massachusetts Class
D operator’s license. - Software/Hardware:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. - Background check required before employment.
- Vaccinations:
Must be vaccinated against COVID‑19, flu, and receive a booster dose of the COVID‑19 vaccine.
