POSITION SUMMARYThe Youth Development Specialist provides coverage support for clubs and delivers quality, developmentally appropriate programs, activities, services, and special events. This role has programming and operational responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Deliver remote and in-person learning support for BGCB members, BGCB core programs, and activities as directed.
- Supervise and discipline members participating in programs and services within the program area and throughout the clubhouse as appropriate.
- Collaborate on programs and events with staff from other clubhouse departments, other BGCB clubhouses, and community organizations.
- Maintain safe and clean program areas, including securing and maintaining materials, equipment, and resources.
- Participate in supervision sessions and professional development opportunities as appropriate.
- Contribute to evaluation efforts, including participation in the annual member survey.
- Perform other related duties as specified by the Director of Operations or Program Area Manager.
- Model an active, healthy lifestyle; staff are expected to promote healthy behavior with members.
- Foster inclusive, child-friendly environments where youth of all abilities can participate.
- Engage in annual professional development to strengthen skills in youth development.
- All staff share responsibility for maintaining an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.
Required
- High school Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 1 year of experience providing recreation programs for youth.
- Knowledge of youth development principles.
- CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate flexibility.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work with youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work clubhouse hours, with seasonal changes in service needs.
- During the summer, clubhouse hours are 8:00am–6:00pm but may change during regular after-school programming; willingness to break requirements into two shifts if necessary.
- All staff must adhere to BGCB COVID safety protocols and EEC guidelines.

- MS Office and web competency
- Ability to work up to an 8-hour shift
