Direct Support Shelter Advocate

Compensation is $21/hr Immediate Start! Immediate start available.

The position is part of a 24‑hour, 7‑day team located in Brighton, MA, providing shelter and support for homeless families.

Shifts:

first shift (8am‑3pm), second shift (3pm‑11pm), third shift (11pm‑8am).

• Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with residents and assist residents as needed
• Conduct rounds of shelter to maintain safety and security of residents
• Assist with preparation, serving and cleanup of meals during the shift
• Intervene if a resident in crisis (medical, mental health, interpersonal)
• Complete assigned tasks of shift
• Maintain order and cleanliness of the shelter
• Monitor bedrooms, bathrooms, and dayrooms to maintain the safety and security of residents and the premises
• Attend and participate in monthly staff meeting and any other required trainings
• May be involved in room clean ups and packing rooms

• Previous work with homeless individuals and/or families, disabilities or other at-risk populations
• Ability to work alone and handle crises with good judgment, adequate communication skills – both written and oral
• Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
• Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 5‑20 lbs., and remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
