Job Title
Direct Support Shelter Advocate, $21/hr, Independent Contractor, Immediate Start.
Location:
Brockton, MA 02302.
This role is part of a 24‑hour, 7‑day team providing shelter and support for homeless families, with the goal of moving families out of shelter in a supportive environment. The shelter is located in Brighton, MA.
ShiftFirst shift (8:00 am – 3:00 pm), second shift (3:00 pm – 11:00 pm), third shift (11:00 pm – 8:00 am).
Key Responsibilities- Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with residents and assist residents as needed.
- Conduct rounds of shelter to maintain safety and security of residents.
- Assist with preparation, serving and cleanup of meals during the shift.
- Intervene if a resident is in crisis (medical, mental health, interpersonal).
- Complete assigned tasks of shift.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of the shelter.
- Monitor bedrooms, bathrooms, and dayrooms to ensure safety and security of residents and premises.
- Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings and any required trainings.
- May be involved in room clean‑ups and packing rooms.
- Previous work with homeless individuals and/or families, people with disabilities or other at‑risk populations.
- Ability to work alone and handle crises with good judgment and adequate communication skills – both written and oral.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 5–20 lbs., and remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Sitting, standing, reaching above, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, traversing, thinking, speaking, writing, concentrating, interaction with others.
