Director of Accounting
Supervises, oversees, and manages assigned finance and business office staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with district policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding or disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Manages the operations of general accounting, accounts payable, fixed asset accounting, construction accounting, and financial reporting.
Ensures district compliance with policies and procedures as well as state and federal law. Ensures that district financial records, under responsibility, are maintained in compliance with district policies and US GAAP. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance. Maintains and analyzes various financial reports for internal and external uses and audit purposes. Directs development, maintenance, and execution of accounting and internal financial controls.
Allocates internal costs, maintains E-rate records; prepares and files 1099 forms. Estimates monthly accounts payable cash requirements for all funds. Assists with the preparation, validation and submission of year-end financial information to the State Department of Education. Liaisons with district technology department and software vendors to ensure updated systems and timely resolution of technology issues. Monitors the district's accounting email inbox to address incoming questions or billing correspondence.
Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; ensures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines. Directs special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
