Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Regional Safety and Training Specialist to join our Western Region Safety, Training, and Compliance team. This position will primarily focus on CDL instruction, followed by field safety support, while also ensuring DOT compliance and delivering safety and compliance training across the Western Region.
This role is designed for an experienced field employee, CDL driver, equipment operator, line worker, foreman, or safety professional who understands utility construction operations and can effectively coach employees in both classroom and field environments.
Position OverviewThe Regional Safety and Training Specialist will play a key role in supporting workforce readiness, safety performance, training execution, and compliance across the Western Region. This position is a blended role with responsibilities divided across four primary areas: CDL instruction, DOT compliance, compliance and safety training, and field safety support.
The successful candidate will spend a significant amount of time in the field working directly with crews, drivers, new hires, and field leadership. This position will support training delivery, practical evaluations, driver qualification activities, jobsite safety observations, compliance follow‑up, and employee coaching.
This position reports to the Regional Training Coordinator and works closely with the Field Safety Directors, Field Safety Technicians, and Operations personnel.
Qualifications Required:- Extensive field experience in utility construction, commercial driving, equipment operation, safety, training, or a related operational role
- Current CDL or ability to obtain and maintain CDL qualification as required by company policy
- Strong understanding of safe driving practices, jobsite safety expectations, pre‑trip inspections, backing, spotting, load securement, equipment positioning, and defensive driving
- Working knowledge of DOT requirements, driver qualification expectations, company safety policies, and field compliance practices
- Ability to deliver effective classroom, practical, and field‑based training
- Ability to communicate effectively and build trust with field employees, supervisors, and operational leaders
- Strong documentation, organization, follow‑through, and reporting skills
- Willingness to travel across the Western Region to support training, field observations, audits, evaluations, and compliance activities
- Minimum of 5 years of utility construction, line work, commercial driving, fleet, safety, or field operations experience
- Previous experience as a CDL trainer, foreman, field safety representative, equipment operator, driver mentor, or training instructor
- Experience conducting safety audits, driver audits, ride‑alongs, job briefings, tailboards, or field observations
- Experience supporting DOT compliance, DOT Blitz activities, driver retraining, training documentation, or compliance tracking
- Knowledge of OSHA, NESC, SIF Prevention principles, human performance, and utility construction field safety practices
- Support CDL instruction, driver coaching, ride‑alongs, test coordination, and driver retraining as needed
- Support DOT compliance, driver qualification documentation, DOT Blitz follow‑up, and compliance tracking
- Deliver compliance and safety training, including onboarding, OSHA, CPR/First Aid, SIF, and other required programs
- Conduct field safety visits, audits, hazard observations, coaching, and incident follow‑up as needed
