Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Education:

    High school diploma or GED
  • Experience:

    6 months working with children in preschool setting preferred
  • Skills:

    Good communication and organizational skills; teamwork; must be able to successfully complete Food Handlers Permit requirements by BAPS on hire.
Essential Job Functions

These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to the position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

  • Functions as an active team member in the provision of instructional support to the certified teacher by:
    • Assisting with individual student instruction using lessons developed by the teacher including written and oral materials
    • Assisting with supplementary work for students and directing independent study under the supervision of the teacher
    • Reinforcing lessons with small groups of students
    • Performing miscellaneous clerical tasks, such as copying, filing, etc. as directed by the teacher
    • Assisting the teacher in observing, recording and charting behavior
    • Monitoring the class when the teacher is out of the room
    • Implementing positive discipline strategies as directed by site/district initiatives; respects and follows through with teacher's discipline decisions and methods
    • Assisting teacher in assembling/handing materials on the bulletin boards and keeping displays current
    • Assisting with classroom set‑up and preparation of materials for specialized instructional units, including food prep and cleanup
  • Provides non‑instructional support by:
    • Assisting with the supervision of students wherever directed to ensure student welfare
    • Accompanying students from the classroom to other areas as needed
    • Supervising the playground and lunch time including inside/outside recess, helping students through the lunch line, and/or serving food in the classroom, and monitoring class during lunch
    • Assisting with general classroom organization such as lockers, cubbies, bags
    • Assisting with the physical care of students such as feeding, washing, and toileting
    • Obtain a food handlers permit

Ability to project a professional company image through in‑person, phone, and electronic interaction. Ability to build and foster harmonious rapport and work cooperatively with District staff and the public while achieving the objectives and goals of the position.

Ability to handle problematic and/or difficult situations professionally by communicating with the appropriate person.

Attendance Statement

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.

Environmental Conditions

Primarily indoors with some exposure to environmental conditions during duty assignments. Some outside duty assignments required with exposure to pollen, heat, cold, wind, humidity or other weather conditions. Exposure to bodily fluids. The noise level in the work environment may be loud at a standard level for students of this age.

Physical Standards

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee will often be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Employee is required to act quickly to ensure student safety. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs, as may be required in assisting children, rearranging classroom furniture, etc.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
