DescriptionFran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing (CON) is committed to the tripartite mission of teaching, research and creative/scholarly activity and professional and University service and public outreach. Common faculty responsibilities derive from faculty’s multiple roles as teachers, scholars, and community citizens within a University charged to serve the public good by the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. The role of individual faculty is relative to teaching, participation in the development of academic programs, engagement in research and scholarly activities, and support of the University’s public service mission and is dependent on the on the level and type of faculty appointment as well as academic preparation.
AppointmentCore faculty are primarily engaged in the didactic education of nurse anesthesia students and in doctoral advising. The core faculty report to the DNP-NA Program Administrator. They are expected to provide service to the Program, the Department, the College and the University by committee work and other related duties. Faculty teaching nurse anesthesiology content are also expected to maintain a clinical practice to ensure experiential qualification.
CRNA Simulation Faculty is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based education. This role ensures that both low- and high-fidelity simulation experiences enhance Nurse Activity Reporting, learning, clinical competency, and patient safety. The CRNA Simulation Faculty collaborates with faculty, clinical partners, and administrators to integrate simulation into the curriculum effectively, maintaining best practices in simulation-based education and technology. The CRNA Simulation Faculty reports to the DNP-NA Program Administrator.
CRNA Clinical Education Faculty is responsible for the overall direction and coordination of all Nurse Activity Reporting activities in the clinical area. The CRNA Clinical Education Faculty reports to the DNP-NA Program Administrator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Collaborate in curriculum development and program evaluation.
- Provide high quality instruction (didactic, experiential, simulation, etc.) and interprofessional learning experiences by incorporating the latest research, knowledge, and theory into all instruction.
- Update course content, courses, and curriculum according to the CON and University policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to advance the education, research, and service mission of the College and University.
- Maintain current knowledge and competence in area of expertise.
- Contribute to the development of curriculum, teaching materials, and evaluation at all levels.
- Seek new and better devices, techniques, online technologies, procedures, and methods to improve the teaching and learning process.
- Recognize individual needs of students and provide challenging learning opportunities for all learners while maintaining a supportive learning environment.
- Provide academic/career advisement and encouragement to students through formal and informal conferences.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based teaching strategies to supplement and improve instruction and ensure student outcomes.
- Assign grades that reflect student achievement and progress.
- Provide timely and appropriate feedback to students.
- Participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
- Develop continuing education opportunities.
- Remain active in fields of study through research/scholarship.
- Contribute to one’s science through dissemination of articles, books, presentation of findings, and in other ways.
- Seek intramural and extramural funding to advance one’s research/scholastic.
- Leverage professional expertise and experience to engage in service to the department, CON, OUHC, professional organizations and community.
- Promote the OUHC CON positively to the community and to current and future students and graduates.
- Work collaboratively with department chair to determine annual instructional workload assignment.
- Implement and evaluate clinical practice and outreach as they relate to the OUHC CON master plan for evaluation.
- Support the OUHC CON mission and vision with a commitment.
- Participate on University, College, Departmental and/or Program committees, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Possess appropriate credentials/licensure that allow for clinical practice in Oklahoma
- Hold a doctoral degree
- Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Be a graduate of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia
- Hold a minimum of 1 year experience in administrative, clinical, and/or didactic activities.
- A strong and demonstrated commitment to integrating the clinical mission in the academy.
