Overview

The Early Childhood Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a high‑quality, developmentally appropriate educational program for infants through Pre‑K children in a state‑licensed early childhood setting. This position fosters a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize assessment data and observations to differentiate instruction and meet the developmental and learning needs of each child.
  • Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with the Indiana Early Learning Foundations and the interests of children.
  • Conduct home visits at least once per year to strengthen family partnerships.
  • Develop and implement strategies that create a welcoming, inclusive, and family‑centered classroom environment.
  • Conduct at least one family/classroom meeting annually.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, licensing standards, and program requirements.
  • Collaborate with community partners and outside resources to enhance educational opportunities and support services.
  • Foster a classroom culture that promotes leadership, cooperation, responsibility, and respect among children.
  • Maintain a warm, safe, nurturing, and organized learning environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and growth.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement daily indoor and outdoor activities that support the early childhood curriculum and developmental goals.
  • Assume responsibility for the health, safety, supervision, and overall well‑being of children at all times.
  • Assist children with toileting, diapering, feeding, hand‑washing, and other self‑care needs while maintaining dignity and sanitary practices.
  • Oversee mealtime and snack‑time routines, including supervision, sanitation, and required documentation.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records and other required program documentation.
  • Maintain ongoing developmental records for each child, including physical, social‑emotional, language, and cognitive development.
  • Develop and maintain individual child portfolios that include observations, photographs, work samples, and documentation of student progress.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with families through daily reports, notes, phone calls, conferences, and face‑to‑face conversations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, committees, professional learning communities (PLCs), and ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Supervise, support, and effectively utilize the skills and abilities of instructional assistants and classroom support staff.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to foster a positive, respectful, and supportive team environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, family, and program information in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.
  • Provide backup classroom support and coverage when staffing vacancies or absences occur to ensure continuity of care, supervision, and instruction for children.
