Special Education Teacher

This position requires a teacher with a Bachelor's degree and valid Oklahoma certification in the subject area taught. The teacher must meet Oklahoma State Department of Education and Federal standards for a qualified teacher. Skills include reading, analyzing, and interpreting written information; writing required reports and correspondence; presenting information orally; working with mathematical concepts; solving practical problems; interpreting instructions; and knowledge of special education laws, policies, and procedures.

Technological literacy is also required.

The essential job functions include teaching district approved curriculum, guiding the learning process towards achievement of district goals, participating in collaborative planning and professional development, maintaining accurate records, protecting students and facilities, creating a conducive learning environment, developing lesson plans, communicating with parents, accepting and performing assigned duties, attending required meetings, and complying with duty times. The teacher must also handle problematic situations professionally and maintain regular attendance.

The environmental conditions include primarily inside working conditions with some exposure to extreme environmental conditions and bodily fluids. Physical standards include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and moving throughout classrooms and instructional areas. The employee must be able to communicate effectively, tolerate physical activity for extended periods, and perform duties involving repetitive motions.
